Scoliosis (sko-lee-o-sis) is defined as a curvature in the spine from side to side (spinal curves in the front to back direction are called kyphosis – see myKyphosis). Many people have very small curves in the spine that are of no real consequence. A curve must measure more than 10 degrees to have the formal diagnosis of scoliosis.
