My Experience in China
August 27, 2012
In August, I spent two weeks in China and returned with incredible stories from my experience. There were two purposes to the trip to China. The first was to teach the latest techniques of deformity surgery to Chinese surgeons by invitation of their professors. To that extent, I helped them with several selected, difficult cases and also spent several days lecturing at their annual orthopaedic conference.
The second purpose was akin to a medical mission. Because coverage of scoliosis is limited in China, many families cannot afford care, even when their children have an absolutely crippling amount of scoliosis. I was able to get Medtronic to make some generous donations of equipment and volunteered my services in order to provide care to these patients for free.
Soon we will post some before and after photos, photos of the surgery itself, hospital staff, and just the environment. Stay tuned!
